Flushing cooling: when the sealing medium temperature is high, the mechanical seal is usually purchased for flushing cooling. The inlet of flushing fluid is aligned with the friction surface. The purpose of flushing is to keep the temperature of the friction surface within a certain range and prevent the accumulation of impurities near the seal face. This is a common cooling method, which can be divided into self flushing and external flushing.

The inner body flushing uses the sealed medium as the flushing fluid, which can be applied to mechanical seal equipment purchased for general pumps. A small amount of liquid is led out from the outlet of the pump to directly flush the friction end face, and then flows into the pump cavity. When transporting high-temperature or granular media, a cooler or filter can be added to the pipeline between the pump outlet and the flushing inlet.

External flushing is to prepare another flushing fluid system for flushing and cooling. It is often used to seal high temperature or granular media, but its structure is complex.

Back cooling of stationary ring: this cooling method is to send the cooling medium (such as water) directly to the friction end surface to be cooled through the back of stationary ring. The cooling medium is not mixed with the working medium. This cooling method has simple structure, good effect and wide temperature range. But its disadvantage is that the hardness of cooling water is required to be low, especially the sealing of high-temperature medium. Because when the water hardness is high, scale will be generated on the shaft near the seal face, which will make the seal invalid. At the same time, the cooling water shall be prevented from leaking outward along the extended end of the shaft.

Peripheral cooling of stationary ring: in order to solve the problem of scale, the method of peripheral cooling of stationary ring is adopted. Because the cooling water does not directly contact with the shaft or shaft sleeve, this method avoids scale on the shaft or shaft sleeve, and also prevents water leakage along the axial atmospheric side. The requirements for the quality of cooling water can be reduced, but its cooling effect is not as good as that of the back cooling of stationary ring.
